The plot of land where our house will sit has been beautifully populated with trees. It is characterized by a steep slope, tall scrub oaks, and lots of shade. This is the “before” picture:
When the land was cleared to make room for construction, it was both exciting and shocking. We knew intellectually that trees would have to be removed in order to lay the foundation, but the day it actually happened felt visceral.
