Interior paint is now complete and the Kitchen Island stands out as one of our favorite color choices.
As many Cape Cod houses do, our house is named and will have a quarterboard hanging outside, above the garage door. The paint color on the sign is a dark, navy blue that most closely matches to Old Navy from Benjamin Moore. This is the color we will have on the exterior of the front door to the house. So, we decided to carry that color into the house as the color selection for our kitchen island. It is bold! It makes the countertop and white cabinets pop and the island itself stand out.
We all know that whenever anyone entertains, everyone naturally gravitates to the kitchen. We wanted our kitchen island to be big enough to support these gatherings when we entertain. The size of the island has been a battle with the builder. One of few items where we have battled and lost. We wanted a much large island than we ended up with. In the end, the builder was likely correct. Our larger island would have ate into the space in the great room and messed with the flow of the site lines when you enter the great room from the mudroom/powder room area.
It is still a good sized kitchen island and we can’t wait to host everyone in this space. Now we have to select new chairs/stools. Ugh! Another selection to make!!
Here are photos of the island during the construction process and the final look:

Next up this week (we think): sod for the yard, appliances delivered and installed, bathroom fixtures and toilets installed. The sprint to the finish is on.
